Recruitment and Applicant Policy

Last updated: 22 October 2026

This policy sets out how Visions of Hope Travels Africa recruits ethically and how we treat everyone who applies through us. It applies to our staff, and we expect the employers and partners we work with to respect it.

1. Ethical recruitment principles

  • We follow the recruitment, employment and data protection laws that apply in the countries where we and our partners operate.
  • We support fair recruitment principles, including those promoted by the International Labour Organization.
  • We do not take part in recruitment that charges workers for job placement in breach of applicable law.
  • We never sell, or promise for payment, jobs, admissions, work permits or visas.

2. Vacancy verification

Before a vacancy is advertised, we take appropriate steps to check it with the employer, which may include confirming the employer’s identity and registration, the role, salary and contract terms, and who is responsible for permits. Vacancies are marked as verified only after these checks. We close or remove vacancies that are filled, withdrawn or cannot be confirmed.

3. Fair treatment of applicants

  • We assess applicants on their qualifications, skills and experience against the employer’s genuine requirements.
  • We do not discriminate on grounds such as ethnicity, religion, gender, disability or marital status, except where a requirement is lawful and genuinely necessary for the role.
  • We give applicants accurate information about the role, location, salary (where confirmed) and contract terms.
  • Applicants are free to withdraw at any stage.

4. Applicant responsibilities

  • Provide truthful information and genuine documents. False information or documents will lead to withdrawal of the application and may be reported where required by law.
  • Attend agreed interviews or tell us in advance if you cannot.
  • Keep your contact details up to date in your portal.

5. Documents and confidentiality

  • Documents are uploaded and stored securely, with access limited to you and authorised staff.
  • We share an applicant’s information with an employer only for a specific role and with the applicant’s knowledge.
  • We do not keep applicants’ passports or original documents.

6. Application stages and communication

You can track the status of each application in your portal: Submitted, Under review, Shortlisted, Interview stage, Offer received, Documentation in progress, Not successful or Withdrawn. We email you when the status changes. Final hiring decisions are made by the employer.

7. Reporting concerns

If you are asked by anyone, including someone claiming to represent us, to pay for a guaranteed job or visa, or if you have any concern about how a recruitment is being handled, please contact us immediately.
